Valentine's Day 2020
Flowers say it best!
Valentine’s Day, often misinterpreted as a “Hallmark Holiday”, has a history dating back to the 14th Century when it was first celebrated as a day of romance. It’s popularity has grown steadily ever since (after all, who doesn’t like celebrating love and friendship?) and today, the event is celebrated across the globe. And, in the Philippines, it’s the most popular wedding anniversary. Over the course of its history, the most popular Valentine’s gifts for her (or him!) have been sweets and, you guessed it, Valentine’s Day flowers. But, we’ve all received a lovely Teddy, a box of chocolates or gifts inappropriate for a family blog, right? Or, what about that ‘Best Friend’s’ mug you got from ‘that’ best friend? When it comes to Valentine’s Day ideas, there’s a reason gifting flowers has managed to stand the test of time.
Best Valentine's Day Gift Ideas
It’s all about the message you’re trying to send and how that message is received. While flowers almost always elicit a Duchenne smile (the most genuine of all smiles), other gifts have been known to evoke embarrassment or even awkwardness. This is especially true for gifts received in public. Hey, we’ve all been there. But, that’s not to say a combination of Valentine’s Day flowers and teddy bears won’t communicate your affection - after all, that’s a great way to cover all angles. It’s just that one of those Valentine’s Day ideas will do a better job than the other.
Celebrating Love on Valentine's Day
And, with one more reason to celebrate during this time of year, flowers delivered for Valentine’s Day are destined to induce Duchenne smiles upon many, many more. Galentine’s Day, created in 2010 and celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, is a celebration of platonic relationships (typically among women), a day to laud the love you have for your lady friends whether they’re single or not. While it’s history is short, Galentine’s Day flowers are an increasingly popular gift and it’s easy to see why.
